Islamabad, July 26, 2024 – Interns from the Indus Mediation and Dispute Resolution Centre (IMDRC) had the esteemed opportunity to meet Azam Nazeer Tarar, Hon’ble Federal Minister of Law & Justice, Human Rights and Parliamentary Affairs and the Secretary of the Law & Justice Division during their visit to the Ministry of Law & Justice. The meeting highlighted the critical role of young professionals in shaping Pakistan’s legal and mediation landscape. The Federal Minister commended the interns for their dedication and emphasized the importance of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in reducing the burden on the traditional court system, promoting social harmony, and providing cost-effective solutions to disputes.
Hon’ble Azam Nazeer Tarar elaborated on the Ministry’s ongoing initiatives to integrate ADR within the judicial system, discussing the steps being taken to enhance the legal framework supporting mediation and raising public awareness about its benefits. He expressed his support for mediation centres like IMDRC and acknowledged their efforts in promoting ADR, suggesting potential collaborations such as joint training programs, workshops, and public awareness campaigns. The Minister also emphasized the need for continuous training and capacity building for mediators, encouraging the interns to pursue further education and professional development in mediation and ADR. The Secretary of the Law & Justice Division echoed these sentiments, adding insights into the operational and administrative support available to bolster ADR initiatives.
